News from Shalstone

Roy Williams- Roy Williams sadly died on 3rdJune. Roy was born on the 1st September 1926. He never spent a night in hospital for the whole of his life.

He started work at the age of fourteen with British Rail. He worked as a design draughtsman designing the brakes for the Royal Train and was part of the team that met the Queen when it was handed over to her.

In 2004 he moved to Shalstone with his late wife Doris to be near his daughter Fiona and her husband Chris. He was a great bridge player, golfer and enjoyed gardening.

We send our sympathy to all his friends and family at his loss.

The Reading Room- As you will remember last year a working party washed down the interior of the Reading Room. Well, it is now time to turn our attention to the outside. This would give us a chance to access what maintenance is needed. We would very much appreciate any help people could offer starting during the first two weeks of July. Could you give Elspeth a ring on 704963 if you could spare some time to help?

Coffee morning 15th September 10.30am-12noon- Real coffee, cakes and plants and chat.

Church cleaning: for July - Amanda and Patricia, for August - Fiona and Janet.
