An Elizabethan Christmas 2nd December 4pm, Shalstone Church- The Elizabethan's celebrated Christmastide, the forty days of Christmas, with only passing reference to religion. It was a jolly good excuse to party, eat and drink too much, and show off to other wealthy nobles. The celebrations began on Halloween with the election of the "Lord of Misrule" whose task was to preside over the Christmas revelries, and the partying would continue right through the winter to Candlemas on 2nd February.

This is a candlelit performance with mulled cider and Elizabethan sweetmeats. Readings about the Elizabethan winter and Christmastide celebrations are framed with the sublime music of William Byrd, William Cobbold and Antony Holbourne. Our audience is invited to bring a rug for warmth and a be-ribboned cup to share the Wassail for the crowning of the King or Queen of the Bean.

Mr Simpson's Little Consort is an award-winning historic performance group based in Buckingham. Find them on Facebook or website: mrssimpsonslittleconsort.wordpress.com

Remembrance Sunday Service - Many thanks to Antony Shillington for taking this service. He did an enormous amount of work producing a history of the village and of the ten men from this village who died in the first and second wars. The service was very moving. A young man, Neel Collin, played the bugle to mark the two minutes silence.
