Councillor vacancy
Westbury Parish Council still has one vacancy. Our six current councillors James, Graeme, Vicky, Cath, Katy and Richard are a great bunch who enjoy having a say on what goes on in our lovely little village. New street name
The first entrance on the right off the A422 from Brackley is in the process of being named Red Oak Lane; in May 1943, a Wellington Bomber with five crew members crashed into the hill just to the west of the road and were all killed. In 2014 the family of one of the crew planted a Canadian red oak tree there in memory of those who died. The farm which moved from the Mill Farmyard was subsequently named ‘Red Oak Farm’ to commemorate this, and residents have been given permission to name their road. Highways update
Westbury Parish Council has applied to the HS2 Road Safety fund for a pedestrian crossing and a further vehicle activated sign (VAS) on the A422 and are pleased to say we are through to Stage 2. We should know by the end of October whether we’ve made it through this stage when they’ll carry out a feasibility study etc.
Transport for Bucks (TfB) are surveying the drainage system on Main Street using CCTV to assess areas of damage underground. They will map areas of collapsed pipe and replace it or get the utility companies to organise the repairs.
Speed Watch
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this was put on hold but it has now been reinstated and we are able to commence with our project. Councillor Cath Young is taking the lead with traffic calming in Westbury and has taken over Speed Watch in the village. If you are not already on our list of volunteers but would like to get involved, please contact Cath at: cath.young15@gmail.com
Dog fouling – Pooper snooper app
If you would like to help tackle this messy issue, you can download an app on your mobile phone which will help to build a picture of problem areas in the village. Pooper Snooper has been designed to allow people to quickly, easily and accurately record dog poo (and see bin locations), which then appear on a map within the app. You can download the app here: https://poopersnooper.app/get-started
