In Tingewick there are two war memorial sites, one in the cemetery as a stone cross, the other in the form of a stained glass window and brass plates in the church
In 1919, fund raising was started to erect a memorial to those from this parish who died in the 1914-18 war. Opinion was divided over what form the memorial should take. Some wanted a cross, others a stained glass window or brass mural tablet
On the 16th December 1920, a service was held in the church to dedicate a stained glass window, a memorial to those who fell in World War I
A brass plate secured to the wall under the window records those who fell
The names engraved are:
Frank Aris: Percy Jones: William T. Ridgeway: Edward J. Ditlow: Daniel Linford: Artur Side: Richard P. Gardner: William H. Lucas: Shugborough N. Steeden: Cecil V. Gardner: Alfred J. R. Neal: Alfred Waring: Harry Holton: William J. Pollard: Charles Worvill: Frederick J. Holton: Frank A. Richardson
Then on July 24th 1921 a memorial cross was unveiled in the cemetery by Major General Fanshawe K.C.B.,DS.O. In front of a large crowd. It is said the Major General gave an inspiring address and also reviewed 'the ex-servicemen on parade, many of whom had served under him during the war
The ceremony was very impressive and solemn, concluding with the Last Post and Reveille
The cross is inscribed:
