Greetings to you all
Hello all, moving into winter I have had the words of the following poem floating around my head…
|
When Mary goes walking |
We would sing this poem in the kindergarten I used to lead, for 3- to 6-year-olds. Often the simplicity of rhymes, stories for children, touch our hearts and stay with us….the poem talks of Mary, Jesus’ earthly mother, speaking of nature, of creation, recognising her special role in bringing Jesus down amongst us…Immanuel, God with us…. Matthew 1:23
Now as the trees become bare, the days shorter and darker we see the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparation is coming around. Mary has started the journey to Bethlehem and in each of our parishes we will be seeing the lights twinkling in our windows and trees. The light shining on in the darkness – how wonderful to cheer our mood as they reflect the light of Jesus coming down amongst us – Immanuel, God with us…No wonder so many other faiths welcome light during these dark days, it reaches into our hearts…encouraging us to reach out to each other too – to family, to our local community and beyond.
Many charities rely so much on the giving at Christmas. So many thanks have to go to those of you who give so generously to our local food bank collections, to baby basics and to our church collections, which helps us to share with charities we support. Giving gifts and presents at Christmas reflects our desire to show love and care for needs of others.
Our parish churches are places of worship and gathering places for our local communities – for all people, of faith and none, they offer a place of welcome for us to come together. It cannot go unnoticed how incredibly fortunate we are that we can gather in such a way – so many countries around the world live with unrest, from war, from oppressive regimes, that not only restrict belief but education and social activity. We are indeed fortunate.
Do look through the calendar in the Link and find a service to come along to, take time to enjoy the peace and the joy you will find – praying for our own life concerns, for our worldly concerns and to welcome this Christmas – the greatest gift of Jesus coming amongst us – Immanuel, God with us …
As always give me a ring for a chat, I always welcome a chat, all blessings to you
All blessings to you
Revd Paula
